What was it like to see God’s Power and Glory? (Read Psalm 44:1)
Psalm 44:1 “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.”
Job 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
Job 38:5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Job 38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
So, EVERY time you look up, and see the Sun, the Moon, the stars, you are watching the heavens screaming the very glory of God!
- Lot saw the power and glory of God as the fire of God fell on Sodom and Gomorrah, judging that area for their wicked sin
- Moses saw the glory of God in that little burning bush at the top of Mt Sinai – it made his face to shine for the rest of his life
- Moses later saw God’s glory shine brighter than the sun INSIDE the Tabernacle when the sacrifice of the lamb was made
- Israel saw the glory of God when He split the Red Sea right down the middle to the other side and kept the waters apart for 12 hours. They also saw God provide manna on the ground every day for over 38 years while they journeyed through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land
But then it got BETTER
The disciples saw Jesus walking on thrashing, turbulent water, in the middle of a storm, saying “Peace!”They also saw Jesus break a few small loaves of bread and two small fishes into pieces, and then feed 5,000 men plus women and children from those pieces until they were all stuffed and full!
Those disciples watched as Jesus reached out and healed multitudes of sick and lame and crippled and dying people – non-stop!And they watched as He even raised back to life those that had died days earlier!
They SAW the glory and power of God! They heard the joy of the crowds every single day – no one went away disappointed. They felt the hair stand on their arms, and were speechless at every word He spoke, as they watched every work of the hands of Jesus!
But read Psalm 63:1,2 again…
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
It is great reading about God doing great things throughout history
But nothing compares to seeing the power and the glory of God not just in the past, but right here, IN the Sanctuary – in the midst of God’s people today!
I’ve seen it in my Christian life...
And I yearn to see it again!
I’ve seen…GOD conquer proud, arrogant sinners who should NEVER have darkened the doorway of a Gospel preaching church – and yet they came into hear the preaching, and crumbled under the weight of their sin, and cried out to God to save them! AMEN
I’ve seen… A deep, quieting of the hearts and minds of people sitting in awe of the God of the Bible! It’s marvellous!
I’ve heard hardened, angry men WEEP over their anger, and their secret sins.
I’ve watched as people, enslaved by their addictions, as they were absolutely made free by the work of the Spirit of God freeing them from impossible addictions!
I’ve watched a bitter wife break down and forgive her husband, and her parents right in front of me and have a marriage again!
I’ve watched broken men, who had lost their families, their health, their joy, still decide to live for the Lord Jesus form that day forward because He is worthy!
I’ve seen teenagers finally humble themselves and take the hand of their father and say, I’m so sorry Dad! And then hug them for the first time in years!
I’ve rejoiced to see God’s people make some solid decisions to come out of the closet, and walk with God, and follow the life of Jesus, and restore that first love they used to have when they first got saved!
I yearn to see all that AGAIN!
I want to see the glory and power of God as an entire church becomes burdened for sinners instead of for pleasures!
I want to hear grown men say "Amen!" during the preaching of the Bible.
I yearn to see MEN make Church and preaching and prayer and Bible reading and godliness number one in their lives!
I hunger for God to make soul-winners out of the most fearful of us.
I yearn to win souls myself – turn hearts from darkness to God’s light, and from the power of Satan unto God (Act 26:18) To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
You may think this is just fanaticism – a little over the top. But it is NOT.
It is supposed to be NORMAL for us to see God do impossible things in our midst.
